What’s in a Surface?

Our adventure trails and playground equipment can usually be installed on a grass surface and at a low level in most instances, and there’s no doubt that this simplifies the process and reduces the cost to our clients.

However, we can also combine this with an array of specifically designed safety surfacing options, which allows for the secure installation of high level items at schools and various locations.

So let’s take a look at some of the safety surfacing options that we offer to clients:

 

• Wetpour surfacing: This type of safety surface consists of resin bonded rubber granuals, which are laid in varying thicknesses to provide protection for falling from different heights. It’s also an all-weather and fast draining surface, and one that’s extremely durable and cost-effective.

 

• Grassmat surfacing: This is essentially a playground matting, and one that provides the maximum protection for children. Not only is this an extremely safe and durable surface, but it also keeps the underlying grass looking grass and prevents your play area from becoming a sunken, boggy mess!

 

• Play Bark Surfacing: Play bark is often found beneath the equipment on adventure trails, while it’s installed loosely into a raised pit and laid in variable depths. This is important, as the depth of the play bark surface can be determined according to the items of equipment included within.

 

• Resin Bound Rubber Mulch: This surface is often confused with play bark, but it’s components are bonded tightly together using resin. This minimises the risk of overspill and allows you to maintain a tidy play area, while it also prevents depressions from appearing in high traffic regions.

 

• Rubber Mulch Surfacing: This surface bridges the gap between play bark and resin bound rubber mulch, as it’s provided in loose form and deposited in a raised or excavated pit. Both durable and environmentally friendly, rubber mulch contains 90% recycled material and can instantly enhance the green credentials of your school.

 

• Play Sand: We over a number of bespoke sand and water systems to our clients, with our play sand offering an excellent safety surface that encourages high levels of interactive play. Our play sand is washed, screened and made from moist silica, while it’s also non-flammable and will not discolour over a sustained period of time.

 

• Playsafe Surfacing: One of our most popular safety surfaces, this product is widely used by schools, nurseries and playgrounds nationwide. Essentially an impact absorbing artificial grass, our product offering is available in a wide range of colours and up to five different thicknesses to suit variable needs.

 

• Nearly Grass Surfacing: Finally, we come to what is arguably our most hard-wearing and durable surfaces, which is robust enough to withstand a steady stream of over-excited and boisterous children! It also offers the closest representation of grass of any artificial surface, while its excellent draining properties mean that it can be placed nearly water features or in areas that are prone to water logging.

Bringing your Playground to Life with NWS Play

Once your equipment and safety surfaces have been installed, we’ll also use our diverse range of playground markings to bring these interactive areas to life!

Based on the highest quality thermoplastic, these markings transform drab and colourless tarmac into stimulating play areas. They’re also non-slip and non-toxic, while their extremely hard-wearing and considered to be up to five-times longer than traditional markings.
